EXECUTIVES MINGLE WITH THE CROWDS FOR EARLY MORNING SUNDAY RUN
It is always good to see Hong Kong's finest pounding the pavement.
Lai See spotted some well-known executives crossing the finishing line at Sunday's Standard Chartered Marathon 2006, including Li & Fung managing director William Fung Kwok-lun, who completed the half marathon. He was supported by his brother and chairman Victor Fung Kwok-king and the pair celebrated with a soft drink at their family-owned Circle K store at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.
We also spied long-time supporter, InvestHK chief Mike Rowse (right), who competed in the 10km race, and Standard Chartered director Mike DeNoma, who has four full marathons to his name in the past 12 months.
But Lai See's pick of the day was New World Services, whose captain Kwan Cheuk-fai brought in 50 bus drivers from New World First Bus and Citybus for the event, most of them aged over 50 and able to complete the half marathon with ease.
The bus drivers were among 40,000 runners who endured the punishing route and before finishing, passed through the Western Harbour Tunnel with its illuminated signs of 'no speeding' with a sporting sense of irony.
