The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is calling for donations for its teaching hotel project in Tsim Sha Tsui East, which is expected to cost about $600 million.
Last October, PolyU's School of Hotel and Management (SHM) announced its plan to build a 300-room, four-star hotel on the site of its staff hostel.
The new venture will comprise a teaching hotel, restaurants, conference facilities, research centres as well as staff quarters.
It is aimed at providing hotel students with hands-on experience and a real case study for research.
At a ceremony last week, PolyU president Poon Chung-kwong said the university still needed donations to help cover costs, but he did not disclose how much had so far been collected. Most donations had come from the hotel industry.
The project will also be financed by PolyU's non-government funds and bank loans.
