CITY Polytechnic has filed a writ with the Supreme Court claiming more than $13 million from Blue Cross (Asia-Pacific) Insurance Limited.
The institution contends that it suffered loss and damage because the insurer had wrongfully repudiated a contract to provide medical and life insurance coverage for its employees.
According to the writ, City Polytechnic had appointed Gibbs Insurance Consultants Ltd to act as its insurance broker to advise the institution on its group medical and life insurance programme for 1993 to 1996.
Acting through Gibbs, on or around May 14 this year, City Polytechnic invited tenders for the programme and each invitation was accompanied with the conditions for tender.
The writ said that the documents had expressly stated that should the tenderer have any doubt as to the precise meaning of the terms, it must be clarified with Gibbs before the date for submission of the tender.
Blue Cross submitted its tender with its proposal for the programme on May 24.
