HERE'S a word from SANTA. No, not the bearded gentleman in a red suit but the Spare A New Toy Appeal. The charity has set up collection points at various locations around Hong Kong today to collect new toys to be distributed to the hundreds of needy kids in 75 children's homes at Christmas. This worthwhile appeal has been made every year since 1978, and the public has always responded magnificently. Last year, for example, 12,000 new toys were collected. The organisers are specifically asking for gifts such as creative toys, games, crayons and building blocks which can be enjoyed by both girls and boys from tinies to teenies. There is one proviso, though - no guns or battery-operated toys. Anyone interested in donating toys to this commendable cause will find collection bins at The Landmark, Holiday Inn Golden Mile, Manning's at Repulse Bay, the Century Hotel (Wan Chai), Metropole Hotel (Waterloo Road), Central GPO and the YMCA (Salisbury Road).
