Laser technology developed in Finland has taken some of the legwork out of shopping for shoes. The Left Foot Company uses a machine that can build 3D replicas of your feet to be stored on a computer. The electronic footprints are used to make custom men's footwear that can be delivered to your door, which means you'll never have to visit a shoe shop again.
While you stand on a circular plate in laser-readable socks, the machine builds a precise image of your foot as it rotates through 360 degrees. The image is sent via e-mail to Finland, where the shoes are made, then delivered about four weeks later.
The company has more than 40 styles in a range of leathers.
Prices start from $2,000. You can choose from leather or man-made soles and a personal message can be printed on the insole.
Because the information is stored on a database, a loved one or friend can order an exact-fit pair of custom shoes complete with a personal message for a special occasion.
