Girl falls to her death in Tuen Mun
Updated at 6.53pm: A 13-year-old girl plunged to her death from a public housing block in Tuen Mun, on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at about 12.30pm on Tuesday on a corridor at Oi Shun House of Yau Oi Estate, the Ming Pao Daily reported.
A 25-year-old witness, who was a male friend of the girl, said he saw the girl climbing the fences on the corridor and preparing to leap off, the newspaper reported.
The man said he tried to stop her from jumping but failed. The girl was confirmed dead in hospital, the Ming Pao Daily reported.
Initial police investigations suggested no suspicious circumstances were involved, the paper said.
The number of Hong Kong teenagers committing suicide has been rising in recent years. Some social workers said this was caused by parents and schools putting too much pressure on them. Family and relationship problems are other commonly cited factors.
