Dozens of Filipino migrant workers demonstrated yesterday outside the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong, adding their voices to calls for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to resign. About 50 Filipino nationals carried placards and chanted, 'Never again, never again to martial law'. The group presented a petition to a consular representative. 'We demand that proclamation 1017 be lifted immediately. We believe the voices of migrant workers will have a significant impact and we want the government to know that our action will continue until Gloria is out of her post,' said Dolores Balladares, chairwoman of the United Filipinos in Hong Kong. A long line of migrant workers at the United Centre in Admiralty, where the protest was held, had mixed feelings. Some supported the rally as an expression of 'people power', while others wished it would 'hurry up and end' so they could get their visa matters processed.
