He is now a member of the elite training squad at the Hong Kong Sports Institute and is regarded as one of Hong Kong's brightest prospects in the sport. He won many honours last year, including a grade five tournament in Myanmar, and he was the runner-up at the grade five Indian ITF Junior Tournament in Chennai. Gilbert also won a 2005 Bauhinia Bowl Bank of China-Hong Kong Outstanding Athlete Award. He is currently number 253 in the junior world rankings.
