The Federation of Hong Kong Industries received 141 entries for this category. The award aims to promote and recognise the importance of product design in Hong Kong, and encourage local entrepreneurs to improve the design and research and development of their products. Entries were judged on their physical design and technological innovation, quality, usefulness, marketability and safety. 'These criteria carry different weights for different kinds of products,' a federation spokesman said. 'Some may not be applicable to certain products. Other criteria such as environmental friendliness, price, market share, user friendliness [and] contribution to society will be considered where appropriate.'
