Now in its sixth year, Art Walk takes place today. For $400, you can wander among the galleries in Soho and Central enjoying the art, drink and food at 40 galleries. However, not every gallery in the area is participating. The Galerie des Arts et de la Culture at 32 Cochrane Road (off the Mid-Levels escalator) has decided to do its own thing with an Art Discovery Night tonight. Belgian photographer Christian Verhoeven and his wife specialise in promoting local artists and they feel they are unique enough to host their own event. 'The other galleries are more like showrooms. We try to create an atmosphere. We're more cosy,' Verhoeven explains. 'The problem with Art Walk is their requirements are not suitable with our goal. We don't want an event where people are drinking a lot.' Instead, Verhoeven's salon, which moved from Mui Wo in November, will charge $200 for a night of art. Guests will get two Belgian beers and a chance to win a $10,000 painting. 'We're Belgian, we don't offer wine.'
