The Derby Jackpot, a quiz game specially designed for racing fans, will start tomorrow as part of the promotion for the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby Trial meeting.
The game will continue on March 12 and 19 and will conclude on Derby Day on March 26. Total prizemoney for the game is $400,000.
'This is an initiative that we feel will generate terrific on-course excitement for genuine racing fans as we count down to the Classic,' said Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Jockey Club's executive director of racing.
'With such a great heritage, it is not surprising the Derby is an event that is most keenly anticipated among the racing public. We thought it would be a good idea to inject further interest into this year's Classic by creating this unique on-course game,' Engelbrecht-Bresges said.
Kim Mak, the HKJC's executive director of corporate development, said public (aged 18 or above) are invited to take part in the game, which will be played over two rounds on each of the four dates. It will be hosted by renowned artiste Chin Ka-lok and racing commentator Angelin Chang at the Tipster Forum on the concourse of Sha Tin racecourse.
The first round will be held after each of races two to five, when the host will announce a question about horse racing. Racegoers can call a designated phone number with the answer. The first person to get through with the correct answer will receive a $10,000 cash voucher and will be eligible to enter the second round.
First round winners will join the second round that will be held after race nine on each of the four days. They will be asked six questions by the hosts. For each of the six questions, a HK$10,000 cash voucher will be awarded to the first contestant to press a buzzer on stage and give the correct answer.
