THE Government will press the territory's first corporate manslaughter charges against several construction companies for June's Quarry Bay lift tragedy in which 12 people died.
Four engineers were yesterday charged with manslaughter for the deaths of the 12 workers killed when the building site lift plunged 17 floors.
The four engineers, aged between 30 and 45 and from three companies, were allowed bail of $50,000 each pending their appearance in Eastern Court tomorrow.
More Labour Department summonses were issued against parties concerned in the territory's worst construction site accident.
Ten summonses were laid against Aoki Corporation under the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance.
One summons will be served on a registered safety officer of the Java Road site, Yip Wing-cheong, 32, who is alleged to have failed to take reasonable care of the health and safety of other people.
