DRAGONAIR engineers are investigating why a six-month-old Airbus 320 developed a crack in its windscreen yesterday, forcing the pilot to abort a flight to China and return to Kai Tak.
Flight KA322 with 149 passengers on board landed safely at 2.37 pm after taking off at 1.13 pm on a flight to Nanjing.
About 40 minutes into the flight the pilot reported that a crack had developed in the right-hand side of the windscreen.
A spokeswoman for Dragonair said the pilot decided to turn round so the windscreen could be fixed in Hong Kong rather than in China.
''The passengers were switched to another plane and the windscreen was repaired,'' she said.
''There is no indication yet as to why the crack appeared, but it was not caused by bad weather.
''Our engineers will be conducting an investigation.'' The passengers were transferred to another Dragonair Airbus 320 which took off for Nanjing at 3.30 pm.
