There's more to Japan's music scene than the syrupy strains of J-pop. For proof, look no further than Tokyo Incidents.

The five-piece band is fronted by singer-songwriter Sheena Ringo, a pop oddity and trendsetter. As Japan's answer to Bjork, she's known for her cutting-edge music, eccentric style and zany music videos. She put her solo career on hold to join Tokyo Incidents in 2004.

The band's latest album, Adult, features a myriad of different genres, ranging from light jazz to hard rock.

Opener Secret fuses explosive rock with jazz. The uncanny combination has an edgy feel that's smoothed over by the addition of a beautiful piano solo.

Another great track is Powder Up My Mind, a bossa nova piece topped with light jazz that's ideal for a relaxed Sunday afternoon.

Scene of Carnage is a funk-flavoured track with impressive guitar work and a dreamy soundscape.
