Relatives (above) of the late Tung Biu, popularly know as Uncle Bill, hold a vigil for the late racing commentator and television personality (pictured top) yesterday at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hunghom ahead of today's funeral.

A jumbo jet and a racecourse were among the paper offerings prepared for Tung who died on February 22 at St Paul's Hospital, Causeway Bay, at the age of 73.

Born in 1933, he learned the skills of horse riding and training from his grandfather and father. Racing fans loved his commentary because of his deep knowledge of horses and, above all, his outspoken and often critical style. Between 1978 and 1996, Uncle Bill starred in a string of television dramas and Hong Kong movies.
