THE KOREAN TEXTILE manufacturing industry is making a strong showing at Interstoff Asia, with silk companies from the country's famed Jinju region in South Korea leading the way.

Of the 30 Korean companies exhibiting at the fair under the Dynamic Korea national pavilion, 12 are showing silk from Jinju, a hub city in southern Korea.

The 12 firms, all members of the Korea Silk Research Institute, are making their first appearance at the fair.

'Jinju is a fountainhead of national culture and spirit,' institute chief manager Song Gyeong-ja said.

With a history dating back 1,000 years, Jinju is renowned as 'the home of patriotic spirit, education, culture and art'.

'Jinju silk is recognised for its superior quality, which is a result of the combination of natural resources, from the clean water of Mount Jirisan, for example, and the human talent of Jinju,' Ms Song said.

The silk has a soft, refined feeling and high-quality dyeing techniques impart subtlety to colours.
