Display chip designer Solomon Systech (International) will reduce its reliance on mobile phone products this year, managing director Humphrey Leung Kwong-wai says.
The firm generated 85 per cent of last year's revenue from providing display chips to handset vendors such as Motorola. The remaining 15 per cent came from newly developed display products and organic light-emitting diode products used in digital music players.
Motorola was Solomon's largest customer last year, accounting for 40 per cent to 50 per cent of sales, Mr Leung said yesterday.
'Our reliance on mobile phone display products will fall to around 70 per cent to 75 per cent this year, with new products such as large LCD panel display chips making a significant contribution,' he added.
Last year, Solomon shipped 263 million units of chips, 67 per cent more than in 2004 and Mr Leung expected the double-digit growth to continue this year.
'The shipment of the large LCD panel display chips is expected to double over last year, when we shipped only 300,000 units,' Mr Leung said, adding that this business would account for 5 per cent to 10 per cent of sales.
