HKU vice-chancellor Tsui Lap-chee  is not only  famous for his genetic research but has also earned himself a fine reputation as a football goalkeeper. On the soccer field, he is known as 'The Rock', at least among fellow academics, apparently for his rock-solid performance.

'This year we will debut a lineup led by  vice-chancellor Lap-chee 'The Rock' Tsui, with his very consistent performance at goalkeeping,'  according to an internal HKU  e-mail announcing the third annual HKU-CUHK Vice-Chancellors Football Cup.

The head honchos of Chinese University and HKU will square off  tomorrow,  promising a lively spectacle with  flabby middle-aged academics in pristine sportswear. The e-mail was prompted because 'spectators are desperately needed to cheer for the [HKU] football team', otherwise known as the Strollers.
