Punishment

The three players were fined 50,000 yuan each.

Kong Linghui

Kicked the table after disagreeing with the umpire's decision during a tight game in the National Games.

Punishment

Fined 20,000 yuan and forced to publicly apologise to umpire.

FEBRUARY 1998

Yang Ying

After the Chinese New Year she was three hours late returning to a  training camp.

Punishment

Sent back to Jiangsu  and suspended for three months.

October 2001

Zhang Yining

The world's leading woman lost a tiebreaker 21-5 at the National Games. Officials said she had the wrong attitude.

Punishment

Suspended from  international events for three months.

October 2002

Li Nan

During the Asian Games in Korea she was seen wearing a skin-cleansing face mask  one evening. Officials decided  her attitude  was too relaxed.

Punishment

She had to apologise.

January 2004

Bai Yang, Hou Yingchao, Li Nan and Fan Ying

Officials decided their love lives with other players were affecting  training.

Punishment

Axed from national squad though Bai and Fan were recalled.

JANUARY 2004

Qiu Yike

After a tournament in Guangzhou he got drunk at a karaoke bar with two girls.

Punishment

Fined 20,000 yuan, banned from the tour circuit for six months.

FEBRUARY 2006

Qiu Yike

Returned late to dormitory after a night of drinking with friends during the national trials.

Punishment

Demoted to the second team.
