Show your appreciation of nature in all its forms by taking part in the My Favourite Insect Election.

The vote is organised by local religious organisation Sik Sik Yuen. The group launched the election early this month with the aim of raising public awareness of environmental protection. Sik Sik Yuen believes that humans should live in harmony with and protect nature.

Twenty-four species of insect commonly found in Hong Kong are candidates in the vote. Pictures and a brief introduction are available for each species on the voting website, myinsect.net

The lists includes two butterflies - the blue-spotted crow and black-veined tiger. It is estimated that thousands of blue-spotted crows fly from cooler parts of Asia to Hong Kong every year to spend the winter.

Even though it looks very different, the black-veined tiger belongs to the same family as the crow - Danaidae. Its bright colour warns the enemy not to get close.

Three of the insects on the list are moths. The atlas moth is the largest moth in Hong Kong. Its wingspan can measure up to 30cm, winning it the honour of king of the moths.
