GXS internet trading moves into top gear

Chinese car and parts manufacturers are banking on the latest internet-based trading infrastructure to help them expand the supply chain for the mainland's rapidly developing vehicle industry. E-commerce systems provider GXS has found itself in the middle of this activity after securing strategic deals with Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Limited (DPCA) and China Enterprise Network Communications (China Entercom). 'The Chinese automotive market is growing at a phenomenal rate and that growth must be supported and nurtured through effective business-to-business integration solutions,' said Ben Wong Kam-ming, GXS vice-president for Asia-Pacific operations. A joint venture between Dongfeng Automotive Group and French carmaker Peugeot Citroen, DPCA will use the B2B Gateway software and service package from GXS to build a high-performance supply chain network integrating its internal applications with the business processes of its partners through the online GXS Trading Grid. With the grid, DPCA is linked to a global electronic business community of more than 40,000 trading partners. DPCA sold 140,000 vehicles last year. Meanwhile, GXS has partnered with government-backed service provider China Entercom to launch China

e-Auto Hub, a business-to-business e-commerce set-up for more than 8,000 mainland companies, including original equipment manufacturers, parts and raw materials suppliers, vehicle dealers, retailers and third-party logistics providers. United States-based GXS hosts one of the world's largest business-to-business networks, supporting an automotive customer base that includes the world's top 25 automotive original equipment manufacturers.

oracle boosts security for its crm technology

Oracle has moved to bolster security for its flagship Siebel customer relationship management (CRM) technology. The database giant announced last week the completion of its 22nd independent security evaluation, following a third-party laboratory's review of its Siebel eBusiness Application Development Platform version 7.8.2. It achieved the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2, the industry's first CRM application to do so. 'Oracle's customers represent some of the most security-conscious organisations in the world,' said Mary Ann Davidson, Oracle's chief security officer. 'This evaluation underscores Oracle's commitment to building security into all of our products.' Accepted by more than 20 governments worldwide, the National Information Assurance Partnership's Common Criteria evaluation assesses the security of a product against a published security target. Features evaluated in the Siebel platform included support for auditing, cryptography, communications, data protection and security management.
