My friend Alex is the world's worst driver. We drove to Sai Kung yesterday and it was a nightmare. He pulled out from in front of my place and almost knocked over a cyclist. He swore and blamed the cyclist.
After five minutes, he pulled over to the side of the road and pulled up to make a phone call. Then he pulled out again into the line of cars without looking in his mirror. I told him to be careful but he just laughed and called me a wimp.
I couldn't believe what he did next. He pulled out again and pulled over into the middle line of traffic. What an idiot! I closed my eyes and put my hands over my face. I was speechless.
After about 10 minutes, and again without warning, he pulled over to the side of the road, pulled up and got out of the car.
'Look! There's a cat lying on the grass. It's either dead or injured.'
Two minutes later he was back at the car, holding a large black cat. 'It's still alive. A car must have run it over. We're taking it to the vet's.' He pulled a box out of the boot, put the cat in and we drove to a vet's in Sai Kung.
We left the cat and went looking for a restaurant for lunch. Alex phoned the vet's about 10 times to see if the cat would pull through. What a morning! I tried to enjoy my lunch, but all the time I was dreading the drive home.
