What: Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is one Hong Kong's  largest charities  and service organisations.

Its history dates back to the establishment of Tung Wah Hospital in Sheung Wan in 1870.  It now runs five hospitals, as well as kindergartens and secondary, primary  and special schools.  Tung Wah's community services division operates about 130 units  that provide a wide variety of services for the elderly, youth and families, along with   rehabilitation and community services.

Teen volunteer: Ray Yuen Kin-lung, 16, is a fourth-former at Kowloon Technical School. He has been doing volunteer work at Tung Wah's Yu Mak Yuen Integrated Services Centre for about three years.

'When the centre opened a few years ago, I went there to play, and also to look for volunteer opportunities.

Our youth volunteer group, which was expanded into a long-term programme last October, now has about 20 to 30 members. It's divided into three teams which provide services  to the elderly,  children and general community. My team is focused on serving  children.

We organise regular events for children. We try to have different themes, such as Mother's Day,

for each event. We also run activities, such as orienteering in nearby parks, and also teach

children photography.

I live in the same housing estate with the children in my group, and it's  satisfying to see them become friendlier and more polite as they grow older.

I hope my work brings happiness to children. I believe that school should not be the only place for learning. Children can also learn from fun activities.

My advice to students who are interested in becoming volunteers is that they must manage their time well, otherwise they won't be able to help others effectively.  They must also be responsible.

When you run a large-scale activity, the sudden absence of one or two volunteers can make a big difference. You must learn to co-operate with others,  because no one can run an activity alone.'
