I REFER to the outcry over ''discrimination'' against Filipina maids. Although the signs in the lifts of some buildings are distasteful to some people, they are not put up without a valid reason. I have observed that many Filipino maids speak loudly among themselves in the lifts of buildings and on public buses (particularly in mini-buses). This is a nuisance and generates resentment among other people. Rather than just protesting against such ''discrimination'', surely it would be better to ''educate'' the maids to behave in a reasonable manner in public. ROBERT THIO, Ph.D Happy Valley
