Meet the region's leading fashion designers
Ruby Li Lai-san graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in fashion design. Although she started designing at university, it wasn't until 1995 that she launched her own label, Ruby Li. Her designs quickly attracted attention and, in the same year, she was invited to participate in Hong Kong Fashion Week. Today, she has her own boutique in Causeway Bay, where she sells women's ready-to-wear, accessories and T-shirts.
Have you always wanted to be a fashion designer?
I always dreamt of becoming a photographer, or an interior or fashion designer.
How did you set up the label?
I set up my company without any planning. I just followed my instincts. I've learnt a lot through trial and error.
