In Peter David's book, The Maze, readers find themselves in the fantasy world of Dinotopia. Here, humans and dinosaurs coexist in perfect harmony. But this seems abnormal or altogether impossible, doesn't it?
Of course it does. This is because Dinotopia is an imaginary world which fits into the category known as science fiction.
Science fiction is one of the many forms of literature, and can be distinguished by its own unique features and creatures.
What are some of these unique elements?
They are often set in an alternative or virtual universe. Alternative universes can and often do have similarities with the 'real' world, but they usually break away from 'normality' in some way.
Perhaps the normal laws and findings of science no longer apply. Think about what thing or things in The Maze defy the findings of science.
