Model helpers Working nine to five inside or outside the office? Get some much-needed help from a new generation of Latitude notebook computers from Dell. These models are thinner and lighter than previous generations of Latitude laptops. They come standard with full magnesium alloy construction, spill-resistant keyboards, hard drive protection and metal-reinforced security slots. The Latitude D620 (right) starts at $9,282. It weighs just 2kg but has a 14.1-inch display, Intel Core Duo T2300 processor, 512MB of double data rate two synchronous dynamic RAM, a 40-gigabyte hard drive, Wi-fi capability and Dell's three-year CompleteCover repair and replacement service plan. The Latitude D820 model starts at $10,470 and includes an Intel Core Duo T2300 chip, 512MB DDR2 shared memory, 40GB hard drive and Wi-fi capability. It comes with a 15.4-inch wide display and weighs 2.54kg.

Maximum security Fail-safe security comes in a small package with the DataTraveler Elite Privacy Edition USB flash drive. The plug-and-play device from Kingston Technology is designed for business users. Available in capacities from 256 megabytes to 4 gigabytes, the drive measures 67.7 x 20.8 x 9.0mm. It has a complex password protocol and a mechanism that locks out would-be attackers after 25 consecutive failed password attempts. It can be used on any computer and does not require so-called admin rights, set up by a firm's information technology administrator. When authorised users access the encrypted files, they can view the data with no additional software. The DataTraveler Elite Privacy Edition USB flash drive is distributed in Hong Kong by Viewking Trading (2865-2070). Local prices have not been released.

Budget beauty Designed for small businesses with a limited budget, the new Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook personal computer automates many routine security and maintenance tasks via a suite of productivity tools. Its Lenovo Care tools include: one-button system recovery to diagnose, get help, and recover systems to a previously saved state following failures caused by viruses and malware; automatic updates to download and install critical updates for Lenovo software on a user-configured schedule; and easy connectivity for simple wired or wireless set-up for the home or office. It comes in 14.1-inch and 15.4-inch versions for viewing 20 per cent more data space in spreadsheet applications or watching DVDs in the optimised format. It is also available with either Intel's Core Duo or Solo processor. Prices for the Lenovo 3000 N100 start at $10,998.

Printer's angel The Designjet 8000s Printer is the second product developed under an alliance between Hewlett-Packard and Seiko I Infotech. Available later this year, the 1,626mm-wide printer is designed for a range of large-format, outdoor graphics applications - from small signs to banners. The low-solvent device can print 88 square feet of vivid colour output per hour at 720x720 dots per inch. Like the earlier Designjet 9000s Printer series, the 8000s Printer will feature the 'HP low-solvent' printing system. This includes low-solvent ink formulations, ink cartridges and convenient cleaning and maintenance kits, enabling print service providers to produce durable prints in a safe and efficient way. Play safe Thin, light and dependable, the new Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook S7110 comes equipped with the latest Intel Centrino Duo Mobile technology and enhanced levels of security fit for business users. Fujitsu's flagship corporate notebook computer weighs 1.8kg and measures 306x248x33.5mm. It also has a 14.1-inch display, a choice of 80 or 100-gigabyte hard disk drive, spill-resistant keyboard, built-in microphone and four programmable application-launch buttons (internet, e-mail and two other software programs). Its security features include radio frequency-based fingerprint sensor, two-password hard disk-lock and anti-theft lock slot. Prices for the LifeBook S7110 notebook computer start at $16,980.
