CANADIAN companies are finding a demand in Hong Kong and China industry for advanced technology, particularly that concerned with the environment.
Metropolitan Toronto Mayor Alan Tonks said yesterday that Canadian technologies in sewerage and water treatment were well known and advances in re-cycling of waste were also finding a market.
Canadian firm Complete Recycling Systems is in advanced negotiations with a mainland company to set up a joint venture to target this potential growth area.
Complete Recycling chairman Malcolm Finlay said the company was involved in recycling of all wastes, but was particularly advanced in producing plastic products from waste, including a plastic railway sleeper to replace wood and metal versions.
''Hong Kong apparently produces 12,000 tonnes of building waste a day and most of the recycling is carried out overseas,'' said Mr Finlay.
He said the Hong Kong Government and private enterprise was interested in setting up recycling plants in the territory.
