There was more than just rugby happening at the weekend. As anyone around the HSBC building on Thursday noticed, the entire ground floor of the bank was blocked off for a giant black box built for the Giorgio Armani haute couture shows. That's right, 'shows', as in plural. Since the space only held about 300 people, it could hardly accommodate the number of Armani patrons and celebrities, not to mention VIP clients of the private bank arm of HSBC who also received invitations and enjoyed a cocktail party on the 28th floor. The silver-haired designer didn't disappoint and came out for his final bows with Jackie Chan. With so many guests for the 7pm, 8pm and 9pm presentations, things went surprisingly well. It helped that the organisers were ruthless with scheduled times. Every invitation warned not to be late as once doors closed, they stayed closed. Naturally, nobody wanted to be late, so the 9pm show started at precisely 9.30pm (normally it wouldn't start until past 10pm). For one of these big productions, that's pretty much on time.
