To mark the donation of $10 million by the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has named the podium on level five of its Ho Sin Hang Campus the 'William M.W. Mong Courtyard'. At the ceremony last week, HKBU president Ng Ching-fai said the donation would be a significant contribution towards the development of the university. 'We hope that our students, while enjoying a fruitful campus life, will remain constantly aware of the community's expectations of them and shoulder their social responsibilities. For the benefit of our society and its younger generation, HKBU is keen to develop new areas of involvement with the general public and collaboration with the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund.' He especially thanked the electronics tycoon William Mong Man-wai for his generous support over the years. 'Dr Mong, together with another staunch supporter, Dr Ho Sin-hang, made substantial contributions to the university in the 1980s, and the Wai Hang Sports Centre was named after them as a tribute to their generosity,' Professor Ng said. Established in 1984, the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, in addition to setting up scholarships at HKBU, has contributed about $500 million towards projects that benefit education, the medical services, sports, arts and culture, environmental protection and community services.
