Leung Wan-kam and Lam Sau-man were in fine form for Heep Yunn School; they took the honours in the girls' competition.

The finals were held at the Choi Hung Road Sports Centre.

'The standard of school volleyball is definitely rising,' said Cheng King-leung, of the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China, the co-organisers of the competition with the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation.

'A lot of teams looked capable of winning the title this year. It was tight. The girls' champions last year, Pui Ching Middle School, lost in the quarter-finals to Chinese Foundation Secondary School.

'Heep Yunn have been very consistent, reaching the final three years in a row now. They played very well.'

Cheng said the improvement in standards was the result of youth development initiatives launched by the volleyball association.
