Parents of triplets were yesterday convicted of ill-treating and neglecting their 30-month-old son, who died with severe injuries to his limbs and head.

District Court Judge Bernard Whaley said the boy, Lam Bok-yam, could probably have been saved if treatment for his head injury had been sought earlier.

Judge Whaley found Lam Lui-yin, 38, and his wife, Yim Ching-ting, 32, guilty of a count of wilfully ill-treating or neglecting a child in their custody between December 2003 and February 7, 2004, and of causing Bok-yam unnecessary suffering or injury.

The defendants, who had pleaded not guilty, were remanded in custody to April 27, pending background reports for sentencing.

Their surviving children, a son and daughter now aged four, are in the care of Yim's father.
