Bank of East Asia put on the Ritz yesterday.

Shareholders expecting the traditional Chinese lunchbox at the annual general meeting at the Ritz Carlton were instead treated to one of the hotel's cute little combinations of sandwich, fruit tart and chocolate cake. The bank also gave away cake coupons for the Kee-Wah Bakery, adding up to a tasty 'special dividend' of around $100.

With the bank's share price gaining 33 per cent this year, it's not surprising no one complained.

The bank's generosity also extended to Simon Li Fook-seen, 83, who retired as a director after 19 years. He was presented with a souvenir gold replica of the Bank of East Asia Tower by his nephew and bank chairman David Li Kwok-po.
