A leading Beijing neurosurgeon who helped a news anchor recover from horrific brain injuries has offered to fly to Hong Kong to assess a paralysed police officer with serious head injuries.
Constable Jacky Chu Chun-kwok's family said yesterday that brain specialist Ling Feng had agreed to see the injured officer at Kwong Wah Hospital.
'My business partner spoke to Dr Ling at Beijing's Xuanwu Hospital this morning. She said the central government liaison office is sorting out the details of the trip now,' said Constable Chu's godfather Petrus Wai Kwai-nam.
'Dr Ling did not mention anything about fees, but explained she would need to see Chun-kwok before deciding whether he can be moved to the mainland for treatment.'
Mr Wai, a former firefighter, believes that Dr Ling's hyperbaric oxygen therapy - the use of oxygen under high pressure - will help his godson since it was used in the recovery of Phoenix TV news anchor Tanya Liu Hai-jui from severe brain damage despite being in a coma for two months after a train crash in May 2002. She underwent 21 months of treatment in Beijing.
'I'm very happy. I want to thank all the people who have been helping us. This will give me new hope,' said Constable Chu's wife, Chu Choi Yin-ping.
