Why you can trust SCMP
David Evans

Those intriguing bits of hair, crumbs and nail clippings rattling around your computer keyboard just got a lot more interesting, thanks to the QX5 computer microscope.

Simply plug the microscope into your computer's USB port, load up the accompanying software, then roam around your home or office searching for things to magnify. The images appear larger than life on your desktop, allowing you to take snapshots, video and even time-lapse movies of, say, mould growing on last week's sandwich crusts. Using drawing and painting tools, images can be manipulated and a detachable stand allows you to move around to get up close and personal to all manner of dust and debris. With three magnification levels - 10x, 60x and 200x - super-bright LED lighting and video playback of 15 frames a second, the microscope is powerful enough to find as yet undiscovered microbes everywhere. The set comes complete with specimen jars, sample slide, tweezers and an eye dropper. All you need is Windows and an eye for discovery.
