DAVID Oughton struck in no uncertain terms at Happy Valley yesterday afternoon with a superb 1,056-1 treble.

 His treble came courtesy of old faithfuls Love Not War and Humdinger in the first and fifth and the lightly-raced Invincible in the third.

 Oughton, widely acknowledged as being one of the fairest men to ride for anywhere in the game, repaid the hard work local rider W. H. ''Rambo'' Tse has been putting in for him in the mornings by giving him the leg-up on Love Not War.

 Tse did his stuff when engineering a beautiful rails run rounding the home turn.

 With stable rider Mick Kinane missing the party - he was representing Ireland in the Super Jockey series in Japan - his countryman Walter Swinburn rode the perfect races on Invincible and Humdinger to clinch the treble.

 Swinburn went on to complete a treble of his own when powering David Hill's Gladstonian to victory in the eighth.

 Oughton, moving to a handy 11 winners for the campaign, was particularly pleased by Invincible's win in the second event.

  There were many who thought the race lay between Lawrie Fownes' Money Fountain and John Moore's High Reward, both of whom were sporting blinkers for the first time.

  They dominated the betting and were backed down to 5-2 and 7-2 with Invincible starting at 7-1.

  But Oughton pointed out: ''If you fancied Lawrie's horse, you had to fancy mine the way he ran home strongly behind Lawrie's last time out.

  ''It was his first run of the season and he had trained on well since.''   Oughton added with a smile: ''He was also a good price!''   Swinburn, so many times the man for the big occasion, produced the textbook ride on Invincible who can progress from here and may well win again - especially when racing over farther.

  He had him smartly away from barrier one and never left the rails until making his race-winning move turning off the home bend.

  In contrast Money Fountain blotted his copybook when jumping awkwardly and never gave Alan Munro a chance of getting him tucked in going into the first corner.

  From the top of the straight it was a ding-dong battle between great friends and rivals Swinburn and Munro with Invincible holding on bravely by a head.

  Fownes conceded that the draw had been all against Money Fountain, his improving young son of Omnicorp who should not be long in winning.

  He said: ''He was really beaten by the outside barrier. In the circumstances he did well to run such a close second but like my other horse, Cricket Lord, he's not really going to be at his peak until next season.''   Swinburn has never really enjoyed the best of luck on his trips to Hong Kong but you can't keep a good man down.

  He produced another peach of a ride on Humdinger coming from second-last to cut a victorious swathe through his rivals in the fifth.

  He had a length to spare over Patrick Biancone's outsider Jade Signet who held favourite Cruise Missile for third.

  Swinburn could hardly conceal his delight at the way his three-month stint in the territory has started - yesterday's treble following his success for Oughton on Diamond Treasure on Wednesday night's card.

  ''This is just the start I wanted,'' he smiled as he left the track. ''I'm really fired up for my three months and feel this longer stint gives me and all the Club riders something to work on.''   Work has been the byword for W.H. Tse as far as Oughton is concerned. The popular local jockey never misses a morning and this season has played a useful role in getting them ready.

  ''I couldn't be more pleased at giving him a winner,'' stressed Oughton after Love Not War had run clean away with the opener.

  Oughton looked to have a big chance of a four-timer when his Tiger's Spirit turned for home clear in the last.

  But he was caught close to home by the fast-finishing Compradore who simply loves the Valley bends and has been a real money-spinner for his sporting connections since arriving from Ireland. Compradore was completing a double for Hill.
