Information and communications technology are the highlight this year, with state-of-the-art solutions and services geared for a modern lifestyle
MORE THAN 2,700 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions have signed up for the Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2006 (Spring Edition), which opens on Friday for a four-day run at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
A highlight of the fair is the ICT Pavilion, which focuses on information technologies and software applications.
Founded in 2004 to complement the autumn edition Electronics Fair that has been running for 25 years, the spring fair has grown so much so quickly that it is already as big as the autumn fair.
Anne Chick, senior exhibitions manager of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), the organiser of both fairs, said the strong growth was the result of an insightful decision: 'Product life cycles in this industry are so short and consumers constantly demand new items, so it was decided that another electronics fair was warranted.'
This is perhaps most true in the audio-visual category. More than 250 exhibitors have listed the MP3 as one of the products they plan to showcase in the fair, while more than 200 have listed DVD players.
