Flash memory set to light up more consumer goods

MUCH OF THE innovation seen in many of the new products that will go on display at the Global Sources China Sourcing Fair: Electronics & Components from tomorrow until next Tuesday have been driven by the falling price of solid-state flash memory.

Flash memory is now being used in an increasing number of product applications and in increasing capacities.

According US market intelligence company iSuppli, the average prices of flash memory parts fell about 55 per cent last year.

In a recent report, the electronics market researchers estimated that unit shipments of flash memory rose about 187 per cent last year, while revenues were up 28 per cent from US$10.7 billion to US$13.8 billion.

Analysts at iSuppli expect the price of flash memory parts to decline another 55 per cent this year, which will spur further growth.

Krzysztof Marszalek, vice-president of sales and marketing at exhibitor Starline International Group, said: 'The flash memory market is the hottest part of the consumer electronics business.
