THE Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is to make a further attempt to have Ewan Launder, a former Hong Kong investment banker, extradited to Hong Kong.

Launder, who was granted GBP500,000 (HK$5.9 million) bail in October, is facing charges in connection with $45 million in bribes relating to the collapse of the Carrian group.

He will appear in court on December 17 in London, when a judge is due to rule on whether the 58-year-old former chief executive of Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation subsidiary Wardley International can be extradited. ''We're hopeful that we willget a decision to go ahead,'' said an ICAC spokesman.

Launder has said, through his lawyer, that he will fight extradition.

ICAC investigator Ray Goldsack, who is in charge of the case, is in England to prepare for the hearing.
