As they say, never ASS-U-ME. A would-be robber this week should take a lesson from that. The man flagged down a taxi in Tseung Kwan O on Thursday. When they reached Sau Mau Ping, he pulled out a knife, took $300 cash from the woman driver and tried to force her into the boot. She managed to escape and the suspect drove off with the vehicle. It was later abandoned with no apparent damage. All that the robber got for his trouble was the petty cash. He must not have noticed the watch the driver was wearing while he was making a futile attempt to tie her up: a genuine Rolex Daytona! Why a taxi driver wears a $50,000 luxury watch on the job is anybody's guess, but a few news photographers who were there and their editors know a thing or two about watches, and they have vowed that it was not a fake. The police PR department could not confirm it, as officers only recorded missing items.
