Romantic action film Daisy is the glossiest film yet by local filmmaker Andrew Lau Wai-keung (Initial D, A Man Called Hero).
It boasts a cast of Korean celebrities, including Jun Ji-hyun (My Sassy Girl), Jung Woo-sung (Sad Movie) and Lee Sung-jae.
Shot in Amsterdam, the film stars Jun as Hye-young, a lonely painter whose grandfather owns an antique shop in the city. She has a secret admirer who leaves a bouquet of daisies in front of the shop every day.
One afternoon, while painting portraits in the city square, she meets an undercover cop (Lee). Hye-young thinks she's found Mr Right, as he's not only handsome, but also holding a bouquet of daisies.
But it's not as simple as it seems. Her admirer is an assassin (Jung) whose hideout is in a building near the square.
Lau, who worked as a cinematographer in the 1980s, isn't a stylish storyteller. Daisy's plot is a modern fairytale, and its flimsy story is made worse by weak characters and wooden dialogue. The actors look as if they're starring in a commercial.
