IT IS difficult finding young male leads for television serials these days. Television directors have been lamenting the fact that good actors inevitably leave the medium to further their career on the big screen.
The situation has become so bad that directors have been picking young singers they think would make good actors and casting them as serial leads. And, singer Julian Cheung Chi-lam is taking advantage of the opportunities this has opened up for him.
The singer has just been cast as Kwok Jing in the coming mega-serial of The Legendary Archer , a role that has propelled many actors to stardom.
''I am happy because television has given me many opportunities. It's not a matter of only talent but luck as well,'' he said.
But with the good comes the bad and Cheung says people are expecting a lot from him in the coming serial and this has intensififed the pressure he feels.
However, television fame has its price. And Cheung, who has only released one album, has had to put his singing career on the back burner - at least until his television commitments have been met.
''Of course, ideally I should develop both careers at once but some things are beyond my control,'' he said.
