Taiwan's Kao Erh-heng takes aim against Germany but his efforts were in vain as the newcomers, represented by club side TV Kornwestheim, thrashed defending champions Taiwan 41-30 yesterday to claim the Gold Cup at the 6th Burt's Bees International Handball Tournament at Kowloon Park. German coach Heiko Burmeister said it was the depth of talent that separated his team from the rest of the field. 'We had at least a couple of players available for every position and so the team was very strong in all areas. It also let us to make changes throughout the match without upsetting the rhythm of the team,' said Burmeister.
Winger Stefan Klaus showed cunning slight of hand to lead his team to six-goal advantage at half-time, while German goalkeeper Benjamin Krotz proved a formidable barrier to a Taiwanese comeback. Hong Kong edged out India to claim the Silver Plate, to the delight of captain Charm Wing-kei. 'That was our aim [to win the Silver Plate] as it is difficult for us as amateurs to beat professional teams. We are very happy,' said Charm.
