Cuisine:  Classic and modern French.

Ambience: This restaurant has the look  and feel of a quaint Parisian cafe, with   dark wooden walls, black-and-white tile floors, large mirror and chalkboard with  art nouveau detailing.

Price: $350 per person, including  service charge for a three-course dinner, not including alcohol.

Pros: Delicious, authentic French fare served by genial staff.  No corkage charge  for diners spending more than $300 per person; otherwise it's $175.

Cons: The  bouillabaisse ($65)  with fish chunks and prawns didn't disappoint  in flavour or its hearty consistency, but half way through, we started spooning up a bountiful catch of small fish bones, making it difficult to eat gracefully.

Recommended dishes: Before the starters arrived, we tucked into hot-from-the-oven crusty bread loaves accompanied by rich pork rillettes. The appetiser of pan-seared foie gras ($95) was exceptional - it was as creamy as whipped butter and placed on  a bed of sweet red onion marmalade and cooked apple. The  mussels ($145, above) were cooked in  white wine broth (alternatively, you can order spice lobster essence), which  was  delicious.  Tender Canadian Angus rib-eye with Paris butter ($190 for 170 grams, $210 for 228g and $230 for 285g) was grilled to our medium-rare request and served with home-cut  fries.  We couldn't pass up the chocolate fondue ($55). It's intended for one person, but there were enough chunks of bananas, pineapple, honeydew melon, strawberries and blueberries for two.

What else: For those on a budget, the restaurant offers three-course set lunches for $75 from Monday to Friday.
