Two armed robbers escaped with electronic parts worth $9.62 million in a daylight holdup yesterday, hijacking a truck and knocking its driver unconsciousness with drugs.

The 43-year-old driver woke up bound and blindfolded nearly four hours later several kilometres from the scene of the hijack.

He smashed a window of the truck to attract attention.

It was the third hijacking in six weeks in which a driver has been drugged and electronic components stolen.

Police said the two assailants dashed in front of the truck in Wai Yip Street, Ngau Tau Kok, at about 11.30am and forced the driver to stop.

One man threatened the driver with what appeared to be a pistol and forced him to open the door, police said. The pair - the other was armed with a knife - leapt into the cab. Both were speaking Putonghua.

'Inside the cabin, the driver was forced to drink some liquid at gunpoint,' a police spokeswoman said.
