Hong Kong's top school athletes hope to go one better than two years ago and win the 2006 Inter-port Championships in Macau this weekend.
Hong Kong senior team sprinters Tang Yik-chun and Leung Hau-sze, who have been included in the squads, are expected to do well at the meet.
Macau, Guangdong and Fujian will be their opponents in the four-team competition held every two years in a different location.
Two years ago in Hong Kong, Yik-chun established new sprint records, and the team won 12 individual titles, finishing in second place overall behind Fujian.
This time the target is to win outright.
'We never know what to expect from the mainland athletes, but we have a very strong team this time, and I think we could do better than before,' said Karin Tam Kwok-wing, of the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation. 'Tang, Leung and Hoi [Man-ling] and many of the others are well-known in Hong Kong for their athletic talent. We hope they will do well.'
The Macau-bound secondary and primary squads were selected after trials last month.
