Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKRep) has lined up a series of productions for the city's theatre lovers. It will stage new plays as well as re-runs of popular productions during the 2006-07 season. In June and July, HKRep will perform the acclaimed 2003 production, Haunted Haunted Little Star, at the Arts Centre. The comedy, written by award-winning playwright To Kwok-wai, is set in the 1960s and is suitable for people of all ages. Later this year, the theatre group will present the world premiere of Blindness, adapted from a novel by 1998 Nobel Laureate Jose Saramago, at Kwai Tsing Theatre in Kwai Fong. HKRep's artistic director Fredric Mao Chun-fai will play the role of Qing Dynasty emperor Kangxi in De Ling and Empress Dowager Ci Xi. The grand production, directed by retired drama professor Daniel Yang Shih-peng, will be staged at the Cultural Centre. HKRep has more productions lined up for early next year, including Dust and Dawn - co-directed by Mao and Paul Poon Wai-sam - and Art, directed by Weigo Lee.
