The prohibitive costs of travelling from Tin Shui Wai around the city are a major hurdle in a former restaurant worker's search for a job. The 53-year-old man gave his name as Mr Ling. He said he was forced to give up his job in Causeway Bay because the pay barely covered his daily expenses, including bus fares. 'I was offered the job last year for $6,500 a month. ... but the bus fares cost me at least $32 a day,' he said. After midnight, fares cost an extra $10. 'The long travelling time is exhausting. It takes about three hours' for a round trip. Mr Ling, his wife and their seven-year-old son have been relying on welfare of $6,500 a month. He said he wanted to work, but salaries in Tin Shui Wai are even lower: $4,000.
