Inbound tour operators say they would have been a better target
Taxi drivers have been invited to tour Disneyland free of charge so they can sell it to the public.
The city's 50,000 taxi drivers were invited to join the free ticket promotion in Tung Chung, Susan Chan Shou-san, publicity director of Hong Kong Disneyland, said yesterday. Applications closed on Sunday but Disney was not able to say yesterday how many had applied.
Taxi operators said they thought the offer would appeal mainly to drivers with young children.
A travel industry leader said it would have been better to make the offer to tour operators who could better sell the park to tourists.
Every taxi driver joining the project will be offered a free ticket to visit the park between May 15 and June 11. A 50 per cent discount will also be offered to up to three of each driver's family or friends.
