The Department of Health has urged the public not to use 'Hashmi Surma Special' cosmetic powder after a nine-month-old girl who used the product since birth was found to have high levels of lead in her blood. The department said the Pakistani girl's family bought the product from a grocery store in Yuen Long and applied it to her eyes daily. She is now in stable condition. Government laboratory tests showed the product contains high concentrations of lead, which exceeds the allowable limit by more than 2,000 times. The department believes the powder is not sold in the city commonly as it could not be found at local shops during spot checks.
